In stressful situations, your perception of pain may be raised. Some studies show that meditation may help you manage pain.

For example, one study of 38 papers found that mindfulness meditation might help people with chronic pain live better by reducing their pain, enhancing their quality of life, and decreasing depression symptoms (40Trusted Source). Meditation was linked to decreased pain in a meta-analysis of 29 research studies including over 3,500 participants (41Trusted Source).

Meditators and non-meditators experienced the same causes of pain, but meditators showed a greater ability to cope with pain and even experienced a reduced sensation of pain.
