21. Mount Etna, Sicily, Italy

The climactic confrontation between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker on the eruptive planet of Mustafar is perhaps the most unforgettable moment in the entire prequel trilogy. It’s here, in Revenge of the Sith, that we see Anakin suffer life-threatening wounds that will eventually turn him into Darth Vader. While actors weren’t actually swinging swords over pools of lava, lava was nonetheless real. It was captured for this sequence from an actual Etna eruption on Sicily’s Mount Etna, one of Sicily’s most popular day excursions from Catania (not to be confused with Mt. Stromboli). The Sonoran Desert landscape around a rescue beacon in Yuma Sector ArizonaRebekah Zemansky / shutterstock.com
