Colin Cantwell, Concept Artist Who Designed Iconic ‘Star Wars’ Spacecraft, Dies at 90
He was born in September of the same year that NASA sent its first astronauts into space, and he had a passion for architecture and an interest in space from childhood. His love of architecture and fascination with outer space made him an ideal candidate to advance his career in Hollywood, working on films like ‘2001: A Space Odyssey.’

Colin Cantwell, the artist who created iconic Star Wars spacecraft including the X-wing fighter and TIE fighter, as well as the Death Star, died Saturday at his home in Colorado, according to his partner Sierra Dall. He was 90 years old.
